Anyone ever pressurize the turbo housing to check for leaks? I've been chasing a low boost issue and have pressurized the IC pipes and the IC (no leaks). I even wired the WG arm closed and the max boost was 20psi (road test).

So I figure it has to be in the compressor housing itself. I did have 25psi at first but it is now down to 20psi. Since this is a centrifical(sp?) type compressor, I figure in the real world there are pressure differentials from the center of the housing (low pressure) to the outside of the "Snail Scroll" (high pressure). So not sure if pressurizing the whole housing is a good test.

I know there's an o-ring face seal and then a seal for the shaft. Any other potential leak points?

TIA

I cant think of anything other than a cracked housing.

What turbo? ported head? what exhaust and intercooler?

wiring the wastgate shut won't work, it will still open. You need to use a vacuum pump to lock it, then see what happens. You have a worn wastegate puck, cracked housing or the can is weak!

Is the compressor nut loose?

The turbo is used (T3/T4 hybrid), the SV (puck and all) are new, the WG is new. I've done static testing on the IC pipe and the IC (no leaks). I removed/plugged BOV, same problem/results. The WG arm is not moving at all (20psi or higher) , I wired it shut and had the same problem (same as doing vacuum to clamp it closed but more positive). I even put a small diameter wire on the arm to test for movement (it was light enough to break if it moved) no movement was detected at the higher boost level. Since I have boost control at 15psi I know it is opening enough, even at top rpm, to bleed off the excess exhaust pressure so the WG arm is opening which is enough even for the higher boost levels. (If it can bleed off at 15psi, the exhaust flows the same regardless, so that is sufficient to work at higher levels.)

I'm leaning toward the compressor housing seal (or nut loose) or the housing is cracked (it has a welded 90degree neck outlet to clear the cylinder head.) I just don't want to pull this out my L-body unless I know it is the problem!
