is a .70 to big?

im trying to decide on a turbo.

either a to4e with 57 stage II w\63 housing
or to4e with 50 housing stage IV w\70 housing

set is as follows

2.2 cb w\venolias
big valve\ported 8v head
8.9 to 1 compression
tubular equal length header 1 5\8 runners
40mm tial wastegate

a413 trans with rmvb and hughes custom convertor stall should be around 4500...

this is in a 89 cs tona..

What is the intended use for the car? Pure drag? Street driven? 90% street, 10% track? Very important to turbo choice.

I have a 46 trim T4 with a stage II turbine and .63 housing. It's a bit of a dog under 3500, then comes on like a sledgehammer after that. It's right on the border of what I would consider "streetable" in a stick Daytona with a 2.2, but others might have different preferences. I have also made many, many alterations to the car and have the ability to calibrate my own car so your mileage may vary.

A better yardstick might be what horsepower level you wish to attain, being reasonable and honest with yourself. Buy the smallest turbo that will support that power level.

i dont even like .63 housings on a normal T3, much less a hybrid (which i think is a really stupid idea). my holset spools better than what i see from hybrids, and has a MUCH smoother boost schedule. i dont even really feel it come on until i look at the speedo and see it climbing FAST. if you make one side big, make the other side match!

Xrat, do you currently run a Holset diesel turbo? If so, do you have any horsepower figures or timeslips? I'm curious to see how a large turbo fares on a 2.2 or 2.5L. I have access to a TE44 turbocharger from a Buick GN, so I've been thinking about going the rediculously large route myself

yeah, i do have a holset diesel turbo on my car
unfortunately i havent been able to see any gains over the stock turbo yet, since i was underfueled even with the stocker.
