I think everyone will steer you towards a true 89TII can...seems to be the best of all, not counting big huge aftermarket/overkill cans...

The earlier T1 can is OK but it has a different mount bracket. I got a new large can and bracket from TU and it looks identical to an '89 can except for the adjustable rod. To use the early T1 you'd have to drill out spot welds to separate the can from the bracket, and then use self -taping screws or something similar to attach the can to a later T2 style mount bracket. I've done it before and it works OK.

is it possible to just remount the early t1 can on the inside of a t2 turbo?....like it is done on a t1, or wont the rod line up right? i really need a wastegate can for this thing, and im not running more than 13-14 psi for the time being so im not worried about whether its a small or large can....id like a large one, but for now any is better than none...if i had the right tools, id be fabbing a bracket for the can off my mitsu...lol
