Well, I've been very bored... So I took pictures of compressor housings!

It's actually pretty interesting. The Mitsu housing looks tiny next to the Garrett, and only has a slight crack for air to breath through once it comes off the compressor wheel. Whereas the Garrett looks MUCH more open and airflow-friendly. The only thing is, it looks like the Mitsubishi has much smoother flow, whereas the Garrett can simply move more air.

And don't be mistaken - I'm not saying the Mitsu will flow better than the Garrett at our boost levels

But anyways, here ya go -

Mitsu - LEFT, Garrett - RIGHT

took a dremel (with snake extension) and wirewheel to the inside of the garrett housing, and it looks real nice now. Looks mirror-like in person

anyway, here are the pics..

The difference between the mitsu and the garrett is quite striking.

Looking at the To4E housing off of my turbo coupe makes te mistu looke even funnier. Thanks for the pics.

Thanks for the pics. The Garrett definately is way better than the mitsu, though the boost response is considerably noticable when swapping to the Garrett.

It's now much harder to gain traction with the Garrett at only 14psi.

I believe that all cars up to either 88 or 89 had a garrett turbo on them. Most will be TI turbos which you will have to swap a TII compressor housing onto to make it work well in a blow through setup.

Be on the lookout for any of the intercooled cars as they were all TII garretts except for the VNT cars and the TIII cars.

Everything up to 1988 had a Garrett, though the compressor and exhaust castings were different between the T1 and T2. The core was the same Garrett, though. In 1988, the T1s got the Mitsu but the T2s kept the Garrett. Then in 1990 came the VNT and the T3 followed in 1991.

The ones with the differnt setup through the throttle body are the early TI cars which should all be garretts. You will need the compressor cover off of a TII to make them work tough. The later cars will all be mitsus except for TIII and TII cars, VNT cars too I guess.

You might want to look out for an 85-86 thinderbird turbo coupe as they have garretts which are a 60 trim compressor wheel. You would need to swap your turbine housing onto that one though.

Also if you could come up with a stock turbo off of an 86-87 buick grand national those are super 70s. Same thing with the TH though.
