I've located a set of rods with the casting number 4323958. This number is only one digit off from the one on Gary's site which he lists as for the '87 and '87 T2. Can someone please confirm if these rods (casting number 4323958) are T2 rods?

It has a floating pin and from what we can tell are not 2.5 rods.

Thanks.

Thank you so much. I did a google search after posting my question and found a 2003 post here where this was discussed. I read it but didn't get the feeling that the detirmination was made.

I apprecaite your reply and look forward to building my '86 'properly' with the right parts.

TII rods, 89 and up 2.5 turbo rods are the same.

Because of the common block right? So even if these are from an '89 2.5 Turbo are they fine to use in an '86 2.2 block?

Yes, there fine to use. All 2.2/2.5 rods are the same except long rod 2.5L tall deck.

Very cool. Bye Bye '86 LW T1 rods hello beefy T2 rods.

BTW, I've seen in some links that these are forged rods? At this point I don't think I care much since they're fine to use but, did MOPAR make forged rods? Were all T2 rods forged or is my research flawed somewhat?

All the rods were forged including the LW rods. More material was added in the needed areas on the T2 and 2.5 T1 rods.

Have the T2 rods reconditioned with ARP rod bolts and they are good to 400HP... maybe more

Ha Ha Ha! Ya,I have seen bigger rods in 5hp Briggs and Stratton engines.Glad to see you are getting rid of those little girlie rods before you have to pick of pieces of your block off the road(been there, done that)

BTW:If you want the TII units even "beefier"polish the beams and shot blast them while they are getting reconditioned. Cant ever have to much beef. ARP bolts for sure if you go through all that trouble!

Thanks, They are on the way to my brother's shop. He owns an FAA repair station where they recondition airplane propellers. When he gets them he'll magnaflux them to insure there are no cracks etc. Then I'll have him weigh each to insure they are all exactly the same weight. Once that is done he'll shot peen them and install new bushings, cut the hole in the top for better oiling chamfer that hole and install new ARP bolts. I am finally happy that my rebuild will be solid.

The engine will not make 400HP and my goals for it are only 180 - 200 at most. It's a show car more than a street racer or daily driver. But even show cars need to have slightly more guts than they did stock. They do that is if they are considered 'performance' cars. While my Turbo Z C/S may not be considered by most outside of this community as a 'performance' car it is up to us to gradually change their minds, isn't it. The best way to do that is to show them.

Thanks for your help guys.
