86Tona · **T2 Rods oiling hole question**

Does anyone know the diameter of the hole that is drilled in the top of the T2 rod by TU or FWD that improves oiling of the small end? I've scored a set of rods and when they are reconditioned I want the shop to do this mod to the rods. I can guess but I don't want to guess wrong. Too large and I risk weaking the small end of the rod at the top. Too small and perhaps the oiling benefit is limited.

If I were to guess I'm thinking 1/8" or 3mm. But again that's just a guess.

I had an FAQ on TM, trying to find it. I seem to remember 3/32" its not that big.

Thanks, I can't imagine it needs to be too big since it is a 'mod' to help with the oiling and the original design didn't have this. If any additional oil has an opportunity to 'get down' to the pin it's a good think I would think. But a hole too large could weaken the rod. 3/32" makes sense.

Is 3/32" the correct size then? I plan on having this done also and never knew what the size was.

Yes 3/32 is the correct size, and dont' forget to chamfer the hole.

My brother owns a propeller repair station and I do some computer work for his network. We trade work for work. I thought he and I would be doing the mod since he has more tools in his machine shop then I could use in a day.

But when I sent him the rods he took them to the machine shop who does his engine boring and crank turning. The guy has done these many times and when my brother told him what we wanted he said it would be no problem.

When we get them back I'm going to balance the pistons and rods so at least they'll be within a gram of each other if not closer. This should help with vibrations if not reducing reciprocal mass power loss.
