Just to clarify most '89 CSX VNT cars did NOT have balance shaft 2.2 motors in them. I have been told that a few at the very end of the run did have balance shafts and of course all of the '90 VNT engines used the balance shafts. Most people seem to like to take the shafts out even though it makes little difference on HP.

I'm thinking you might have that backwards. I thought that most of them came with with balance shafts. What I thought I remember is that for the first handful of the them, the common block wasn't ready so he used the 88 t2 block as the starting point and therefore, there were no balance shafts (and they had the fuel block off plate, etc. etc.).

But this thread has gone so far off topic from the original posters question. Yes, chrysler did make 2.5 turbos and as a "general" rule of thumb, turbo cars made from 84-88 were 2.2 and from 89-92 were 2.5. The exception was for the high performance turbo motors - as a "general" rule of thumb, those were all 2.2's.

I have a 34k mile '89 CSX that has a commonblock 2.2 non balance shaft engine. I have never actually seen any balance shaft ones that came that way originally just have heard rumors some later ones did. But yes I think the original question was answered here.
