I'm thinking you might have that backwards. I thought that most of them came with with balance shafts. What I thought I remember is that for the first handful of the them, the common block wasn't ready so he used the 88 t2 block as the starting point and therefore, there were no balance shafts (and they had the fuel block off plate, etc. etc.).
But this thread has gone so far off topic from the original posters question. Yes, chrysler did make 2.5 turbos and as a "general" rule of thumb, turbo cars made from 84-88 were 2.2 and from 89-92 were 2.5. The exception was for the high performance turbo motors - as a "general" rule of thumb, those were all 2.2's.
