I have just received new Mopar head gaskets from TU and want to clarify that the 005 gaskets work with cross drilled heads, as well as normal style. The 006 gaskets do not match up to the cross drilled ports.

Hopefully this will save someone the confusion that I went through. I mistakenly ordered the wrong one, but Chris at TU got the correct one out to me right away.

The cometic gasket is a standard issue multi-layer steel head gasket. I would not re-use it, but others have with success, so it is their choice to do so. Re-using it would probably work well in an application where the engine does not see a ton of miles and such. I'd definitely not re-use an MLS gasket that has 50k miles on it. If you want to know the truth about anything, do it yourself and find out what happens. Yes, it is the hard way, and expensive way, but that is the best way to learn much of the time. I've spent thousands of $$$$ in mistakes over the years. But now I know why not to listen to everyone, but rather consider what they have said and make your own judgement.

The mandatory head bolt replacement thing is based on 1970's metallurgy. According to the service manual, it states:

"Hold a straightedge across threads of head bolts. Ensure head bolt threads contact straightedge in all areas. If threads fail to contact straightedge, head bolts are stretched and must be replaced."

Typically, TTY bolts have a smaller shank on them than the rest of the bolt, but not always. The reason for performing the final 1/4 turn is because that is the best way to maintain equal clamping force with every bolt. I am a fan of Gary D's method... if the bolt makes good torque after the final 1/4 turn, you're good to go. If it does not, think of what would cause it not to make good torque.

For the record, I have 19,500 miles on my cometic MLS gasket in 2 summers time. Arp head studs. Zero leakage, zero coolant loss. I don't think anyone else here has put such miles on one of these gaskets.

Your daytona has a T1 engine which need the 2005 gasket. Mopar bolts will do just fine, unless you plan on blowing another gasket soon. I used mopar bolts and gasket in my 300 WHP daytona engine, they hold up fine.
