first off im doing a rebuild on my 89 2.5l gtc and since im doing them at my shop i kinda got the pistond mixed up also i cant remember wether to have the slots that hold the bearings in place on the same side or have them oppasite each other my main bearing caps were numbered but my rod bearing caps all they had on them were one had an H and the other three had L's . i did alot of work on this engine cleanin and painting i also upgraded from my t1(mit) turbo to a garret t4 i also had the head shaved 20 thousandths and im going to use the full manual reverse pattern for my tranny. i really need to know what the posistion of those slots are though id hate to spin a bearing in it its got all new perfect circle rings and hi tech bearing new oil pump new injectors new water pump new altenator almost every sensor is new in it. and o man it looks beautiful now that ive dressed her up. i will send pics when finished

So, you have your rod caps off of the rods and don't know which one goes to what rod? If that is the case, you HAVE TO stop right here and go have your rods reconditioned.

If you have your rods and rod caps still together and don't know which piston went in which hole - you might get away with mic'ing the pistons and the bores and matching them up as needed???

Yes, same side.

Like anonymous_user is saying, though, it is really important that you be sure to put the original cap back on the rod.

One way to do this is to get a strong magnifying glass and examine the wear patterns on the sides of the rods and caps -- the part that wears against either side of the crank pin. The wear pattern will be unique and the pattern will exactly line up when you have the correct rod and cap in the correct position. It will take you a bit of time to do this carefully.

If you are unsure of any of them then get them reconditioned. It is probably a good idea to get them reconditioned in the first place.

Hey, congrats for you both on your new son!

Now that that's over, no more stress and plenty of sleep for you three. Right?
