The newer engines out today seem to have a constant direct oiling of the bottom of the pistons to dissipate heat and oil the pin, has anyone tried adding oil squirters to our td engines ?
I know they have the squirters on the rod but that seems like it is far from a direct shot. a little extra oiling of the cylinder couldnt hurt either.

If you cut the slots (don't go overboard) aimed at the piston that's a cheap way to go. These rods for an aircooled motorcycle engine show the technique.

Here is another technique from a Cosworth Ford engine:

From a Honda H series (ignore the scraper):

The above ideas save you the trouble of four separate oil galley connections.

Remember that once you have injected that extra oil for cooling you need to remove it from the windage as quickly as possible (scraper?). Piston oil squirters were tried in the Porsche 928 engine but withdrawn because the extra oil caused rather than solved cooling problems. In the Nissan SR20, having the oil level just a little over full (related problem) raises the oil temp from 250 to 300.

Ed Peters related that the heating issue was a problem for the Mopar turbo 2.2 engine when no oil control was employed. There is a lot to be learned from cross analysis of other engine designs and problems.
