Well, my oil pan is leaking on my daytona now. Has anyone replaced the oil pan on the car while the motor is in the engine bay. I replaced it one, but I had the motor out and upside down. How hard would it be to do this?

IIRC the hardest part is dealing with the tranny dust seal. So it's very doable.

I bought a feldpro gasket and it comes in 4 peices. SO I hope its not too hard. My XR4TI is on the fritz as well so I dont want to get stuck with two downed cars.

difficulty is in the eye of the mechanic. for some it's a peice of cake, for others, totally impossible. I've replace as many in the car as out of the car... for me it's a lot easier in the car than out.

If you havn't open the package yet, you should return the 4 piece oil pan gasket and buy the one piece one. One piece is more expesnive but it is MUCH more easier to install.

Best advise is to clean the crap off at a car wash or have the bottom power washed and don't overtighten the bolts- they can snap or make the gasket bulge and leak. Don use too much rtv that can go into the pan. Just common sense stuff basically.

here's exactly what I do step by step.

1. put car on hoist
2. drail oil
3. remove all oil pan bolts
4. remove oil pan
5. remove bad/defective seals
6. super clean pan, block
7. install front/rear seals
8. use ultrablack RTV.. NEVER use blue---that's for SB chevy's only. put 1/8" bead of sealer on block surface where pan meets block, stay to the inside of the bolt holes. add a little extra on the corners where the end seals meet block. do NOT put sealer on the end seal surfaces.
9. install pan within 5min of applying sealer
10. install and properly torque all bolts and drain plug
11. lower car off hoist
12 (optional) wait ½ hour or so.
13. install suitable oil type and quantity (forgetting this step is BAD)
14. start car
15, check for leaks
16. BEER

I never ever use the cork gaskets.. they are nothing but trouble. I don't use any gasket for trans pan either
