asked him why there so expensive and he sent me this...

These were from a custom order that was cancelled. If you are racing in a non turbo class these pistons are what you would need to get the most out of a 2.5. Notice that they are flat top 2.5 na pistons. My Diamond pistons are more, because they are better. The only thing close are the Venoilias. I have run Venolias with no problem for a long time. But to compete in price they have to offer a basic piston with little or no options. Weisco and JE pretty much suck IMO. Their quality control is not what it should be. My pistons are so consistant that I could pre machine blocks for them. JE and Weisco, you cant, because the diameters vary with each batch. Plus the Diamonds have a couple of more options added to the design. So if you want cheap buy cheap, if you want the best, it may cost a bit more. Last thing, as the add said, these pistond have been lightened and they are flat tops, also the pin diameter is .905 so you can use a lightweight rod. Go and price out a one off custom set from one of the other manufactures and add an expedite fee and you will see that the price is not so off after all.

his price is right on the money. however when a guy bashes other brands shows no class. I was a JE and Wiseco distributor. both are great quality pistons. I also delt with Ross pistons, another quality part. custom made flat top pistons from JE or Wiseco will cost Joe consumer approx $150-$250 each. however my price was substantially less when I was a distibutor. A set of custom JE pistons for the 2.2 with ultra light pins was $300 and wiseco's were $250 set of 4.

I don't think their is anything wrong with bashing brands, as long as the person has proof behind why their product is better than "X"

I havent heard of anyone having problems with Wisecos, Venolia or JE. When I rebuilt mine I went with Wiseco cause of their excellent rep in the motorcycle world and the experience I had with thier product is always top notch. I have had mine a toasty 1700* @ 24 psi, still going strong.

If his pistons are so much better than everyone else with such tight tolerances and forged alloys..... then why won't he stand behind them? No warranty at all? Sounds shady to me. I think if he was confident in his product he would stand behind it because he knows it works. He doesn't.

Simple, they're not his pistons, he just sells them. I buy Diamond pistons quite often. Diamond is very fast on turn-around. Excellent quality. They messed up the first set of pistons they made for me years ago. Re-made the pistons and told me to keep the first set of pistons. If Diamond screws up, they will back them. For some reason, even after sending them a sample piston, mine came with valve reliefs cut for a lotus head (lol)!

They came down in price for me when I showed them proof that I can buy Venolia or Wiseco piston's through a speed shop (read with markup) for $150-200 less than they were quoting me. Told them I like their pistons, but they need to be somewhat competitive on price. I told them that is a key reason why they don't sell many 2.2/2.5 pistons. I can usually get custom made pistons in about two weeks. Any pin height, size, dish, valve relief configuration, ring size, etc. They also offer a 48 hour turnaround, if you need only an exact replacement batch made. Now that is fast!

I used to use Ross, They are probably the best IMO, but after 3 months of waiting and hearing excuse after excuse, I took my business elsewhere. Strange part is my friend got pistons made for his masi motor at Ross during the same time period. He walked through the door, ordered his pistons two months after mine were on order, and he got his way before I got mine. What is up with that!!!

I know this guy personally. He is the owner of MRX Motors in Michigan. He does nothing but build TD motors all day. People send him their vehicles from all over to have them built by him. Check them out at MRX MOTORS

He doesn't buy the N/A Dimond pistons in bulk so they charge him a higher price for the special order. As for a warranty...I don't know anybody that gives you a warranty with pistons. Have you ever got a piston replaced on warranty. I would say that if your planning on going the N/A route then these would be a good set of pistons to pick up.

Yes if you look at it in a total price it does seem high. But if you ask someone that has been building up their car since they got it and ask them how much money they put into it to make it what it is today i'm sure the amount is around the same. Also the people that buy one expensive part and surround it with old used parts that kill the new parts, ask them how much time and money they spent replacing the same parts over and over. Like putting forged pistons into an engine with an old oil pump, stock injectors, stock head with leaking valves and turning up the boost to 20psi and then having to buy another set of pistons cause they melted.

I added up all the parts off of FWD Performance that is needed to build the engine he is talking about and just the parts cost around $4400. That doesn't even include cleaning the block, head, oil pan, valve cover, etc. and painting, machine work on the block or even all the little things like new nuts and bolts to put it together. Plus there is still the labor.

Sure $7000 is alot to spend all at once, especially for all us poor folks. If I had the money, I would for sure do it...to know that everything is done right, that everything on that engine is absolutely brand new and that i'm not going to fix one thing only to find something else broken is well worth it. Think of all the time that is spent pulling an engine apart to replace one piston only to crack another one two weeks later. I don't know about you but I enjoy driving my car more than I enjoy working on it. One time I would like to just be able to beat on my GLH without having to worry what weak link in going to fail this time.

I'm not defending MRX Motors but I am saying that if you want that comfort of being able to race anytime anywhere and still make it back home at the end of the day or even being able to drive you TD from michigan to florida or even California then yeah the price is fair.

Just my 2 cents.

Kevin
