We finally got the intermediate shaft out of my TIII, but we don't know how to get the bearings out. We pounded one out with a socket, but we don't know how to get the new one in without messing it up.

So how do we remove the intermediate shaft bearings out, and how do we get the new ones in without messing them up?

Thanks

Do they make a tool that will pull or push "most" bearings?

You need a special tool.

Just about any machine shop should have one.

Another option is to use heat or cold to install bearings and bearing races.

If a bearing goes OVER a shaft, heat it to 400 degrees or so. There are bearing heaters which work real nice, but your oven will work fine too. Wear a welding glove, but be careful, its still HOT.

If a bearing/race goes INSIDE, freeze it. Stick it in your freezer for a few hours.

Doing this will force the piece to either expand (heat) or contract (cold) and it will slip right in or on. As soon as it begins to dissipate the heat/cold to the surrounding part, it will immediately stick right where its at!!

Does anybody know where to buy that intermediate shaft bushing installer? I know I can get new bushings from FWDP or RR. The outer bushing on one of my engines is chipped and I'm afraid to run the engine until I replace it. The engine is still on the stand.
