Could this have happened from just running the engine or did the re**** that rebuilt this last forget to put on bearings??? I have a hard time believing that someone could be that stupid
He clearly stated "rod bearing". Shoulda' heard that even with open exhaust.
Stereo might possibly have drowned it out , but I don't know.

im positive it is a rod bearing and i ran it for o gosh prolly 2 or 3 months with no problems tell the end. I havent even taken the caps off for the main bearings to be exposed so i know its the rod bearing, i just cant think of where it could have gone too and i know there should have been a knarley knock if there was no bearings, thats why it is all so da** puzzling to me

I guess we'll have to blame this one on the aliens too.

Technically, the UFO pilots are also illegally here. But then if you ask the Native Americans, so are the majority of us.

I call BS. We need pics.

If there truly is NO bearing, that motor would have rattled your teeth out and then come apart in a dramatic manner very quickly.

what will pics prove though, all i have to show is 4 pistons on a cart, and 6 bearing shells, missing the two from the 3rd piston, and maybe the scores and scratches from the journal might show up but i doubt it, ill take them tomorrow anyway, the remainder of the bearings were pretty bad though, looks like oil starvation was the reason for them going down the crapper

I would appreciate the pics. Try to get decent pics of the big end of the rod, opened up, and the rod journal on the crank that it came off of.

You spun a bearing. They get squeezed out of the sides like toothpaste once they spin and damage begins. Look for pieces of metal in your oil pan that look like thin peices of razor blades.

That sounds like the most logical explanation. I'm doing a bearing change right now and the number 4 did just that.

well i did drain the oil just prior to pulling the motor so the pieces could be in there, there was also some tiny particles stuck in the oil pickup screen, im not sure if they are bearing fragments but it is metallic i believe

does the rod look all black/blue and burned on the big end? We had a slant 6 in the shop, and it had a wicked rod knock. When i pulled it apart, it also appeared that there wasn't a rod bearing. The rod was completely black. It seems that the rod bearing tried to weld itself to the rod. The shells were a pain in the ass to remove from the rod

nope the rod and journal look completely normal, the engine is now entirely dismantled and there are still only those 6 rod bearings. idk what coulda caused that but the journal and the rod bore itself arent that badly damaged, although they are more worn then the other rods and journals
