hey everyone i just started taking apart my block today and noticed that the wearings were excessively worn, it looks like from oil starvation. On the number 3 piston there was no rod bearing on the upper or lower half of the rod or cap!!!! Could this have happened from just running the engine or did the re**** that rebuilt this last forget to put on bearings??? I have a hard time believing that someone could be that stupid

well its simple, did u hear a rod knock before u decided to rebuild? if so how long did it knock? did it knock the whole time u had the car from when u first got it, yes then yea whoever rebuilt it if indeed they did than they forgot to put a bearing and of course u didnt find bearing pieces in the pan when u dropped the pan. OR the other case is maybe the previous person had a rod knock and just removed the bearing peices with the plans to rebuiold and never really did then sold the car off to u, this is of course if its been knocking since u bought it lol

no there was no knock really until recently and i believe that to have been more of a rapping from valve train noise as it would not always be there, so no it didnt really have a knocking problem and usually ran pretty well too, and now when i pulled the pistons there is no bearings on cylinder 3

That engine had to be banging away like no bodies business ... your neighbors three doors down heard it. ... unless the shells are in your pant cuffs.

If it didn't knock it HAD to have a bearing in there! Check the crank. It's probably stuck to the journal.

maybe ur the re**** that put the engine together and forgot the bearing, or have u ever heard of a spun bearing cuz that's what happens when u spin a bearing, eventually it dissappears

no i am just now rebuilding the engine so it wasnt my mess up, and if it had spun the bearing there would have been a knock for awhile, atleast for the bearing to completely dissapear

Let's see a picture of the rod missing the bearing, specifically the bore and let's see a picture of the crank journal in question. If the bearing was indeed missing, it would have knocked there's no question about that!!!! However you may not have heard it over the yo diggity c- rap WuTang cranked up.

That crank journal would be all dented up and scarred like a mofo if run w/o a bearing.

out of all the journals on the crank it is the only one with any scarring, its still not even too bad but if you run your finger over that specific journal you can feel scratches and scours.

Are you sure there are no bearings???
No evidence at all?
That journal would be SCREWED with out a bearing and audible knock would be a definite

thats what i was thinking too but i am 100% positive there is no bearing anywhere within the engine, almost everything is dissasembled, the only thing left in is the crank and there was no sign of those two bearing shells anywhere!

So how long did you run this engine with no rod bearings? If you did run an engine without the rod bearings, the rod would come apart almost instantly. We need pics.

Yea since he said his rod bearing is missing, it actually should have been knocking like crazy, BUT in a lot of case a MAIN bearing missing which is the bearing for the crank to block can have no noise since the rest are still supporting the crank so idk how he got no knock since he is talkin bout the rod missing it. Knocking is a rod bearing gone to crap. Anyway a Main bearing missing or spun usually gives no noise, many times goes undetected accept in a turbo engine when ur going through turbos like crazy and cant figure out why, well duh u have bearing fragments in ur oil that start destroying the turbo, Have seen this issue on many engines especially subaru turbo engines in specifically the 2.5 in the newer outbacks and such the main bearing on number 3 cap i beleive had fell apart and no noise wutsoever but turbos were going bad and SOA figured it out and wut do ya know warranty baby. I know this all since i was a tech for subie for some time up till last year. Now a non turbo engine u could drive the thing for a long time and not even know it happened till the engine finally goes capoot due to the bearing fragments passing through the oil galleys and such. Food for thought here cus reading through it seemed some thought he was talking about the main bearings and he wasnt and even if he had been yea there wont be a noise.
