hi just making sure i got this right.i got a 85 2.2 turbo with good rods and pistons that i want to put in a 91 2.5cb n/a motor.i can just change rods and pistons and put the g head on and i should be ready to go right?im going to remove balance shaft and plug oil hole,do #4 cooling mod,and put intake and ported exhaust and turbo off my 88 t2 motor and swork on a custom cal based on the ladybug code.as of right now im running a 2.5 n/a bottom end with a turbo and custom cal having fun blowing it up....my 88 t2 motor popped a wrist pin out and ruined the block and i have 3 2.5 cb n/a motors lying around so i thought id do some fun destruction while im building a good motor.i love the added torque and of the 2.5 with all that compression but she startes knocking around 6 psi.i turned the knock senser down so it dont pick it up and turn down timing till about 12 psi.been driving the snot out of her for 3 weeks now and playing with the cals just learning what differant stuff does without worrying about hurting a good motor.ohh onemore thing i know the cam is retarded 4 degrees being 2.5 n/a but is that why egts are super hot at idle (2250+)but go down at 3000 rpms and above?

WTF.... If you are set on a 2.2...

Take one of those CB 2.5's and go get an 89+ 2.2 crank and 2.2 turbo pistons and have a nice day.

leave the 85 block out of the picture... completely

Edit: you'll have to fab up a turbo oil return line to the pan... no big deal

even sweeter if you can grab the 2.2 CB pan.

Nope wont work at all!!!! To attempt to educate you. Go to United Engine and Machine Co.. look up the specification for the 2.2 pistons and the 2.5 common block pistons, then report back as to what you found out. This is your assignment. If you are successful you earn and A. If you get the answers from someone on here without doing any work on your behalf to solve this answer, you earn an F.

not to mention the rods are the weakest rods out there, and the block is also the weaker of the avaliable blocks.
hell if anything, id do a common block 2.5 with early non commonblock 2.5 rods, g head etc. 2.5 common block turbo "motors" arent hard to find and will save you a hell of a lot of headaches and cussing!

Only disagreeing with the rod statement.85 turbo rods are the same as T2 andT1 2.5 rods except they aren't bushed pins.86 had the L/W rods.non CB 2.5 rods are "long rods"used in tall block 2.5s.would have to have custom pistons to use in CB.

To do what you want to do you can use the rods and pistons in a common block but you would also need a CB 2.2 Crank.
