When I get my engine all back together what kind of break in procedure should I be doing. It will have new rings, forged pistons, bearings, wrist pins and clutch. How long should I run regular oil? How many mi or k should I drive and with what kind of driving style? What kind of proceedures are you guys using? It would be a shame for me to spend all this money and then wreck it with the break in. Any and all help would stupendous. Thanks.

Just run regular 5w30 for the first 2000km and drive it normally. Little runs into boost are fine, just no extended periods of WOT. City driving is the best.

Break in is the least of your concern. Most new engine problems are from cooling system leaks or air locks. Next up are oil leaks and tune up problems. If all is well the rings will be seated within minutes unless you are running chrome, they take a little longer. It's not uncommon to build an engine and go straight to the track. I check everything carefully when I install an engine and if there is an audience I like to show off a little and reach in through the window and click the key. Vroom!!!
Thanks

I've heard that chrome rings are bad b/c there is the chance that they may never seat. Is this true? Should I just stick to a regular set or use file fit?

Regular ones are fine. File fits are better for compression, but bad on valve seals since there is more vacuum.

I think a very good break in is:
1. first time you start the motor set the idle at 1500 rpm and run for 1 half hour.
2. drain and change oil and filter, this will get all the left over crap, and beleive me it's in there, from the machining and assembly process.
3. drive the car at no more than 3500 rpm for the first 300 miles, change the oil and filter again.
4. drive the car keeping under 4000 rpm for the next 700 miles and at cruise go to wide open throttle a couple times.
5. change oil and filter and beat the crap out of it.
the reason I say change the oil so many times is that even at the cleanest shops tiny particles are trapped inside the small oil passeges in every part of the motor, by setting the idle high at first start up you will ensure a good bearing break in.
just my opinion.
