they were 3 weeks ago? This is on a motor with just under 3700 miles. I checked the timing belt to see if it had gotten a tooth off causing the valves to be open at the wrong time causing a compression loss. When the flywheel mark was set at 0 the cam sprocket lined up right(didn't tear the timing belt cover off yet). No smoke or anything like that. My buddy thought he smelled some gas in the oil, but I couldn't quite smell it myself. It has been running rich(been tweaking a new calibration I just got). Anyone have any ideas? My guess is that the rings got unseated a bit; anyway to re-seat them? Been running Mobil 1 15w-50 full synthetic since 1600 miles. Just to be on the safe side, I'm gonna drain the oil(500 miles old) and put fresh oil in. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you think you smell gas in your oil you most likely have washed out your rings due to too much fuel.

Well, any fix other than replacing the rings?

You will need to re-ring most likely.....take wet vs. dry compression readings and compare, if the wet reading are alot higher than you will need a re-ring for sure.

Are you using the same compression gauge as before? I once had a gauge that showed drastically low numbers.

actually, no I'm not. The gauge I had before ended up breaking, well kind of, it's stuck at 30 on the gauge(must've been dropped or something). I'm gonna try and put some oil in there to see ifg it comes up at all. 100 across all 4 still isn't that bad. When I put this motor together I used one of the .020 Copper head shims from Fel-pro, I'm wondering if it just happened to drop that much as a result. Thanks.

Well, I did another compression check today. At first I tried using the old gauge I had used that was stuck at 30 and I got 157 out of it on cyl #1. Then I used the gauge that I had used yesterday and got 127 across all 4 cylinders. I guess the gauge wasn't screwed in tight enough when I had checked it yeaterday. The only other variable is that I checked it right after driving it yesterday and today it was cold/dry when I checked it. Oh well, 127 across all 4 is good enough for me.
