I was out beating the *!)_!*@(& out of my 85 engine STOCK when the smoke cloud hit!?!The pistons looked okay from the top no melted areas and the rings seem to be okay as you can move the pistons around but the rings are expanded(GOOD).No burnt electrodes but the plugs were awfully white.Could it be my turbo seals have failed?Exactly what kind of visual signs are there that
turbo failure has happened?I guess Ill pull a couple pistons out tomorrow and see how they look.Im running around 18psi of boost and I have +40's in.The thing that bugs me is people keep saying there running pig rich and Im not.Is it my stock fuel pump?
And for the last guy who posted ?'s about cast pistons here is my take.I know you can run them with 30 psi of boost but the 1st sign of detonation and there ashtrays! So Im going to run what I have and If I can make the cast pistons last at high boost and I learn more about what Im doing then and only then will I buy the forgings.I tried that once and I smoked all 4 and they were Venolias ARGG...The cast are way cheaper to replace and pratice on.
