I was just wondering if the 2.2 and 2.5 c/b's are the same. Could I get a 2.5 block and put a 2.2 crank and set of pistons in it and the rest of the accessories still bolt up? I have searched on this site and google, but couldn't find anything definite. I am sorry if this is a dumb question.

Yes, hence the name common block. Though, you'll have to plug the oil feed for the balance shaft.

i guess the word "common" could be a clue.

common block 2.5 and 2.2 use the same block and same rods, but different crank and different pistons and oil pan and 2.5 has balance shafts except in dakota and pickup tubes for the oil pump are different

That is what I assumed, but we all know what assuming does. It makes an "a$$" out of "u" and "me." So I was double checking before I purchased a 2.5 block. So all I need to do is plug the balancer oil passages and everything else should bolt right up...am I correct?

No, bore is the same. What makes the difference between the 2.5 and the 2.2 is the crank and pistons, and in terms of the Turbo rods, they are also the same. But the crank has a larger sweep which increases the displacement. You can take a 2.2l block and put a 2.5l crank and a 2.5l pistons and have it working properly. That is what I have in my car right now. The only real difference is from the TBI blocks. The 2.2l TBI blocks were not cross drilled, where the 2.5l after 90 were. And the 2.2l TBI's did not have balance shafts,as well as the T1 and T2 2.2l cars.
