I had just taken my turbo off my Neon and now I notice not as much torque on the motor compared to before turbo a month ago and when engine is running I have smoke coming out of my dip stick tube and decreased suction on my valve cover breather.

Engine idles between 15-17 and sometimes 20 for vacuum.

I changed my pcv valve and it still does it. I don't have any smoke out of the tail pipe until I get rpms high and let off then smoke comes out.

Could be blow-by ... could be water vapor.

you have a couple issues. yes pcv issues will cause this. definitely blow by, as for smoke on decel thats valve seals and worn guides

I didn't have that problem before the turbo so could the turbo have made the valve guides go bad in 2 weeks worth of moderate use? I was thinking the problem may have been melted rings but I didn't excede 7psi of boost for more than enough time to see it hit 7psi due to me never being able to get it in tune.

That does seem to be plausable I will have to check it out in more detail.

The smoke on decel only happens if I wind the motor up to 5000rpm then let off then it smokes alot breifly then stops after it slows down to 4000 rpm. then in normal driving it doesn't smoke at all, even after engaging the passing gear I don't see any smoke.

I have had this problem last year on another motor but in a MUCH more severe state, it smoked out of every orfice on the engine and I thought it had bad rings and a head gasket but when I took it apart the cylinder bores were looking brand new with cross hatching paterns still intact and baby smooth feeling with no scratches or traces of detonation then I seen my head gasket was bad so I passed the problem off on that, so then I threw my backup motor I had laying around in because it was cheaper and faster to do so.

I'd rather this problem be a valve guide/head problem since I have no back up bottom ends left to throw in the car, though I do not have a backup head either valve guide work would be cheaper.

well, now that you actually explained more detail to your problem. you have a ring problem.

damn that sucks, I barely ever took it up to 7psi and when I did it was never more than a second. My turbo crapped out then I took it off and car did this.

Would thicker oil or that really thick stop smoke stuff offset the bad rings for now and get me through the winter? and help gain my low end power back? I know it sounds cheesy but I'm in Wisconsin and I got about less than a month before snow usually starts flying and it gets too cold to work outside. I'm one of those poor unfortunate bastards without a garage

Motor seems to be running at 90% health of what it used to and it doesn't smoke out the tail pipe unless I rev it at 5000rpm+ for a few seconds then let off quickly. It gets good mileage per tank still, idles good, has passing power. Hopefully the ring damage isn't too bad.

so just keep driving it until it gets worse. a quart of oil every now and again is a lot cheaper than the repairs to fix.

part of success, it to use your money wisely. build equity before blowing money on toys. it's called defer your gratifications. i bought my first home when i was 22 then i bought my first td a 1985 glhs.
