Gus used to run around 27 with the stock block, but he used a G head and a copper shim in addition to the head gasket. I believe his compression ratio was around 7:1 while stock is 7.8:1.

He also had a large spearco intercooler, super 60 turbo and he was the king of fuel tricks.

2.5L

+20's
AFPR / fuel pressure gauge to view level
2.5" exhasut (thru)
autometer gauges saying im rich ( also showed on dyno im rich )
TII garrett turbo
(shelby Z ) complete head/2 pc intake
MP computer / elimnated boost cutout
G-valved @ 20 psi.. <<-- spikes to almost 25 psi in 5th..
CAI
VNT rad/ic
Talon 1st gen. BOV
8.5 mm Magnecores
always premium gas 93+ octane

Just would like to be safe with my TI stock pistons from detonation..
The cast crank should be good and all 89 + common block rods are same as TII so they should be good...

I run 18-20psi with no detonation on 110 leaded race gas all day long. I drive the car daily. Its a 85 glht ,stock block, pistons, cam. No intercooler. Upgrades are MP computer,804 injectors, k&n, 2 1/2 exhaust no cat, msd coil and thats it. Even I'm suprised it's stayed togather. If anyone doesnt believe me I'll take ya for a ride I still have traction issues with an a555 w/Quaife posi and Koni shocks in the rear. I've had the car up to 23 psi but it would blow vacuum lines off between shifts.
