I'm going to be replacing the head on my '87 CSX in the next week or two with a crossdrilled head, and I'd like to maybe crossdrill the block to gain the benefits of extra coolant flow. I guess using a crossdrilled headgasket as a template for where to drill will work, but what size bit should I use? Any other things I should know? Or should I just not do it and use a non crossdrilled headgasket? It can be done in the car with a drill, right?

You'd have to take the block out of the car and hand it to a machine shop.

Just go without, and if you really want the cross drills, get ahold of a commonblock that's already drilled. You'll save time and money, and you'll get a stronger block too!
