ok so im in college .. at wyotech and i drive my 89 shelby daytona up here well 2 days after i get here it starts smoking.. alot .. and a few days later that special little knock came from the bottom of the block(rod bearing) on the number 1 rod so i take it all the way down to the block. and i find that the wrist pin lock came off and absolutly killed one sleve like im talking some bad junk. and it collapsed the top of the rod on one ring and well it was letting oil up through on top of the piston. and taking it all from the bearing. well i found a 2.2 from and earlyer turbo dodge looked like it was carborated with the airworks turbo... ? i bought it for 50 bucks im putting all my turbo 2 stuff on this motor and using it in the car for right now till i can get everything done with my other one. the only really big diff is this is the weaker block i know with the weaker rods and pistons . and its the 6 bolt crank instead of the 8 bolt ....so i had to get a flywheel for a 6 bolt ...which was very hard to find in my area. and that was pretty much it i really need to know someone elses opinion on this i mean i was at like 13 lbs of boost with my other motor what should i restrict this 2 im running a break in period and getting a full flush of fluids on this as im really scared of internal rusting. so your opinions are appreciated and i know im down grading but i have no other choice as of right now ..

thanks kalem

The n/a piston won't last at any boost level at all. Junk it and get a TURBO engine or make your car n/a.

TI log engine.

You can run about 14psi on it without problem.

The 84-85 Turbo engines are pretty strong. They had the good rods and the pistons are as good as any Mahle cast piston. The blocks are strong enough for at least 300hp.The 86 is the junk turbo engine(weak rods). What happened to your engine can't happen with the pressed pins of the early engines. Pin locks and floating pins are only to make assembly easier IMHO. Also The early engine will have the good G head but while it will run okay in the 89 ,a little more timing should be in order(up to 16 degrees).A custom cal would be optimum but I understand you're only using this engine till you rebuild your 89, so just drive it as is, it'll be fine.

Use a timing light in the tranny window set on 14 then turn another 2 degrees(EST).

Thank you captain obvious. It needs to be 16 to offset the slow burn head. I've driven a G head on a swirl calibration, and then swapped in a G calibration. It's night and day. So much more off-boost performance that you'd swear you didn't need boost anymore.. So yeah, an extra 4 degrees will help a little bit, definitely still safe.
