I have an opportunity to get an engine, harness, computer, and tranny for a good price, but they know the head is cracked. Granted, the price is good enough that I should probably buy it regardless... but is it possible to fix a crakced it? can it be welded back together or is it completely shot?

Thanks
-Colin

Depends where the crack is
between the valve seats, don't worry about
through to the intake/exhaust runner, big problem
on the head surface or exterior, generally not a big deal
(as long as the head hasn't been decked 30 times before)
I dropped my cracked head off at Relentless and now you can't even tell where the repair was made "thumbs up

Most heads you pull from a junkyard aren't worked, ported, or polished- so those people care.

After you pull a few junk heads from the junkyard at 50$ and then 25$ to have the machine shop say its junk- those people also care. Not to mention time wasted and downtime.

16v heads are pricey, and I think most here are aware.
