ive got a 88 2.2 turbo sundance, i replaced the mitsu turbo with a modified garret and installed an intercooler, +20 injectors running about 18lbs of boost. i recently blew my head gasket and ruined my head( in the process of replacing the head), i want to change my rod and piston assemblies, i know the ones in the eng. are not that great because it is turbo I bottom end. which piston and rod can i use without having to do any other mod. that are better and stronger. i'd appreciate any help, thanks.

well, if cost isn't a concern, forged pistons are the way to go. cast will be maybe yes, maybe no at 18 psi, even with good fuel. most people don't have any problems, but i've heard one or two stories, so there's the disclaimer. as for rods, the t-II rods are the way to go. i'm sure somebody will chime in and say if the 2.5 common block rods will fit an 88 crank. i'm inclined to say yes, but i've been wrong from time to time.

ALL 2.2 TII rods will work, common block or not. You could even use 85 rods (pressfit, but heavier than the LW's)

If done correctly, cast pistons survive at very high boost levels, but just 1 hiccup and they are GONE.
