Best block choice

Well, I'm going to be looking at a Daytona. Now my question is what block/turbo combo should I choose. I'm not looking to go all out (as in insane numbers, like 11's) just conservative mid 13's, low 14's someday.

I've heard to go with a common block 2.5, but I also see most "speed" people run the 2.2 / A555 combination.

I'm looking to do the basics, no real internal modifications, like; exhaust, intake, bov, new ecu, injectors, spark plugs, coil pack, intercooler (maybe a Volvo IC, not sure, there's alot of good choices) and higher boost.

Would the 2.2 or 2.5 be a better choice for what I'm looking for, in your honest opinion? Thanks."thumbs up

either would be fine, the 2.5 internals are more prone to detonation and are easier to melt once you are getting around 20psi. and 2.5's will put down noticibly more torque than a 2.2, but don't make as much top end power.

and on the mods list you can cross off spark plugs and coil. champion spark plugs work the best and a oem mopar coil does too. no performance to be found there.

i can see yor asking alot of newbie questions, you should head over to www.thedodgegarage.com and read the entire "turbo database" you will be much more educated then.

What is the current motor?? 2.5's are very prone to detonation. I wouldn't run a stock 2.5L at the boost required to have a 13 second daytona.

I have a good friend locally with a 13.5 second daytona on an 88 steel crank block with cast pistons.

Okay, so were leaning more towards the 2.2 block then? And when you mean detonation, exactly what do you mean, obviously it can't be a good thing! Is it uncommon to see a 13's ina Daytona without modified internals?

It means the fuel and air are detonating before the end of the compression stroke. This can blow valves apart and blow holes through your pistons among other things.

I am looking for gray interior trim for a J-body (1987-1989) LeBaron coupe hardtop. If you have anything please PM me before throwing it out. I am also selling tan trim if you're interested.

No, It's not uncommon. Either the 87-88 or commonblock TII are more than capable of handling it. I put 290 to the wheels with an 88 block and cast crank.

The 2.5 with stock pistons is just more prone to cracking stock pistons.
