had the fuel pump replaced on my 89 Spirit ES 2.5 T1 5spd. was done by a very reliable shop. unfortunately the mechanic reported that he could smell antifreeze coming out the tailpipe and that the oil was becoming contaminated. he would not agree to dig into the engine and run us up a larger bill because the car is 15 model years old and has 214,000 on the clock!!

i haven't gotten a chance to start wrenching on it yet, but do you guys think it is a blown headgasket or am i gonna find a cracked cyl. head and/or block? considering the mileage, i'm sure the engine could use a rebuild, but it runs so well and i don't have the time or money to pull the whole engine right now!!

oh yeah, the car only cost 400 bucks and is nearly rust free!! it included several new/recent parts including windshield. since then i have replaced the map sensor, hall effects sensor, fuel pump relay (then found out it was the pump that failed), fuel pump (old one died young - only 2 years old). just put 150 bucks worth of rubber on the back - BF Goodwrich H speed rated all season tires!!

i need to get it on the road soon, as my 91 dynasty is fast reaching the end of the road, and my 86 k wagon is still waiting patiently for me to start swapping parts over (newer 2.5, auto, k frame, etc)

most likely it's the headgasket. yank the head off and find out. only takes a couple minutes

just check the radiator for bubbles after the car has been running for a few min. a lot easier than taking the head off just to check
