I read somewhere once that the 2.5 turbo engines came with the T2 rods, not the lightweight rods. Anyone have one of these open and see for themselves?

My 91 2.5 TI *supposedly* came with non-TII rods... but I've been in a big debate with others on this point... I have read that 2.5 TI's that came with an automatic tranny came with the weaker rods... now to me, logically, it seems like it would have been quite a hassel when the cars were being put together back in the day, keeping them all straight... i haven't had the motor apart, but i'd like to believe that it has the stronger rods. If you are certain all 2.5 TI's came with the strong rods I'll be a very happy person...

Are they also bushed for floaters like the T2 rods?

They should be, mine were. Relentless Performance carries the bushings if you need new ones. The dealer can't get just the bushings, you need to buy the entire rod.

i may be mistaken, but my understanding is that only the T2 rods were bushed for the floating pin, and the 2.5 rods were not...

All '87 and later HW rods are floating pin. The dealer CAN order new bushings seperately. I got a set of 4 for around $12 a while back from them.

Could you please find the PN? I'd love to have it so I can redo some rods for my 2.2 I'll be building this winter.

Ken, you were right, the 2.5 is a little weak upstairs...goin' back to a 2.2. Even though I just put in a fresh 2.5 I'd like to have my higher RPM powerband back.

I'm sure the bag with the part number on it is long gone. I used to save all that stuff, but 4 moves later it is lost. You can buy them from Relentless though. I'm sure if you made friends with the dealer someone could track it down too.
