if all else fails, just take the oil pan off and tap your crank with a ball peen hammer. if it's a long low ping it's a forged crank, if it's a short high pitch ping it's cast, i believe billet sounds the same as forged. you can also tell by the casting lines, if they are thin it is cast, if they are wide it is forged. good luck guys

Frank, There is NO way anyone on here can tell you.. They could guess all they (or you) wanted.

You'll have to pull the pan and look... If you've ever seen both, it's easy to tell the difference

I do know that my Hyperphretectic pistons see 14-16psi on DD and the other nite when it was 20F out they got to see 18psi
:big grin:

LOL

and now yesterday I saw some blue smoke, either my turbo going or something else but since it is raining out I can't go out and pop off the IC hose and inlet to the turbo to check em out..(well i could but its cold and im lazy)

ya know I was also wondering how far my block is bored over... wonder how I would go about finding out?

these crappy pistons are most likely coming out this winter if I get a beater and I will replace them with venolias...

I would think that you could call the local dodge garage and run the crank # to the parts or service manager and he would be able to tell you. Possibly even jasper could tell you something.

Why don't you just pull the pan and be sure? I'll almost guarantee that it isn't a steel crank if it is a reman Jasper engine.

I've read that hyperutectic pistons are very bad on a turbocharger engine like ours. Just out of curiousity to learn, was there a specific reason you went with them or something you learned that proves them to be worth the money in our applications?

no.

If I had known what I know now I would of bought a motor from sombody else and what not but oh well.
yes the pistons I have are evil and are only "designed" for 9psi most people I think even gary had a set in a car and said he wouldn't run over 6~7psi on that car.

I hope to beable to buy new pistons this winter and beable to just slap them in the motor. its already .030 over don't wanna have to hone it or anything more than it is because if I do, well thats the end of the road for that block then.
