Is there any market out there?

What would you pay for a professional rebuilt Short Block?
(Customer would supply Pistons.)

Are you talking about a good rebuild or balanced/blueprinted?

Not unless they are the same price as j-yard engines.

Your liability when building engines is tremendous. Think about the guy who forgets to prime the oil pump, then starts it with no oil pressure. It will not draw oil unless it's primed. It's your fault now!

A professional rebuild, not balanced.
Balancing is not too much more though.

Last engine I bought from a yard was $250.00
I do not know anyone who would rebuild an engine for that.

You're not going to get too many takers. We're all a bunch of cheap bastards. You know that.

There will always a market for a reputable engine builder, but in the turbo Dodge world alone, you'd be limited to a niche group. Unless you don't mind doing a few shortblocks as a hobby.

But, there is always the warranty thing that might kill some business. How do handle the guys who blow their engines up or burn a piston due to their lack of experience in tuning or driving? They'll probably try and blame you. FM for example offers no warranty what so ever and it's easy to see why.

Once you've done it a few times, You'll realize that the cheap way is fun, BUT way more expensive in the long run...

DO it right... talking from experience... (but I had a blast with "basement" blocks)

I agree Ken. I just meant that there aren't too many people on the board that are willing to do the full monty. You get what you pay for. I firmly believe in doing it once regardless of expense.

FWIW Bryan, if you can do a balanced shortblock for less than a grand my next one will gladly come your way. I've got more than $1900 invested in my current block alone.

LOL... You got that right... All I used to care about was just getting it back on the street. When you are not a mechanic you make lots of mistakes... I think I know about every stupd little thing you could do to hose an engine.

That being said, I have 2 cars that the power will not be turned up on that are running "basement" blocks just fine... But every car I have will eventually recieve a professionally built block..

100 seems high to redo rods, my shop charges $12 per rod

I am not sure about boring though
