Don't mean to make anyone cranky, but....

Are the cranks between common blocks and non interchangeable. On thedodgegarage.com it list part numbers for years that are both before and after 89. It's probably really obvious, I just don't see it.

they should be the same. The only difference that I know of is the bolt pattern of the crank pully. common block is 5 bolt, everything earlier is 4 bolt, I think.

I thought there was a difference in the snout (cam drive end), but I could be wrong...

THEY ARE DIFFERENT. It's the snout. Without machining, they will NOT interchange.

I'm not sure about new to old but I have an 88 steel crank in my commonblock 2.2. It uses the square tooth set up. This is not something I made up but it was a warranty replacement engine for an 88 Shelby Z. Block date code 90 or 91. At the time I rebuilt it, 1997, I didn't know there were common and non common blocks but found out shortly afterwards when I discovered the internet. Ed Peters mentions this warranty replacement combination in the Phoenix 97 video tech session. I haven't had the engine apart so I can't say for sure if there was any machining involved but I have heard a few people say the older crank fits the common block if you use the square tooth set up. Whenever I do take this engine apart I will be checking this out very carefully!! For what it's worth I am still running the Super 60 cam and it shows no wear!! Possibly because I am running a G head. Many S 60 cam failures seem to be on heads that were originally roller style.
Thanks
Randy
