I've been trying to find an oil pan locally but am afraid of buying the one that doesnt fit. Some one who owned the Z before me jacked up the car on the oilpan and really did a good job or screwing it up .

Can I cut the bottom out and weld in a piece of stainless or should I keep looking. I just know I can have it patched for free but would it be reliable.

I'm sure you could just patch it up but it also depends on how thin the pan is. I know welding can really burn a nice hole in thin metal. But, patching it would work. Just remeber to clean the bastard out before you go and try to weld it!

After welding it, you would have to fill it with a liquid while it's still off the car to see if any of the weld is leaking. If so, WELD IT UP SOME MORE! Best would prolly be weld the outside, let it cool for like, 20 minutes then weld the inside. Also make sure to sand the rough **** down and blow it out with an air hose. Don't need and little slivers of weld going thru your engine.

Anybody correct me if i'm wrong.

Well after I thought abought it I would have my Father-in-law weld it. Besides a few tube chassis under his belt he welds Huge deap friers for food prossesing so I'm sure he could make it leak free easier than I could.

if nobody is going to see it, go ahead and welder up, and good welder can do a leak proof weld, sounds like the father in law knows what he's doing.

Welding works fine. Sounds like he knows what he is doing. I probably have a pan if you decide to replace it instead.
Need to know what year Daytona.
Probably cost more than buying your Uncle a Pizza.

It's an 84 turboZ. You know, the year that has totally differant wireing than all the others so it's a pain to convert to T2 Yep one of those:big grin:

The pan on your '84 Z is the same as any 2.2L from '81-'86 regardless of aspiration or vehicle, IIRC.

If you still cannot find a used pan in good condition, check your local auto part stores. The company Spectra makes new oil pans for the aftermarket. Chrysler dealerships is another $ource.

But if welding is free, it's worth a shot.

I'd try and find another pan first. If not, weld the b!tch. Oh, and pans aren't stainless, they're normal steel.

Well I went to the Dealer today and had them find me one. After the guy spent 5min telling me I had a 2.6L mitsu motor I finally got him to find the right pan They want $95.99 for it and I woulnt get it for another week or so.

I told the guy he could keep it!

Oh the pan cant be fixed. Well at least not easy, the front seal area of the pan is WAY torqued and now that the rtv has given way it's making a nice mess of the parking lot.

I'll try the area junk yards mabey now an 81-86 pan will work I'll go hunting again. Thanks for all the help guys
