I currently have a 86 2.2 block in my daytona. It has many mods already but when I started thinkin' about more H.P. around 300 with my plans! I decided to get a stronger common block engine. But I have heard that a 2.2 is a better performer but with my heavy daytona a 2.5 would be better. What would you guys and gals suggest?

Anybody around ohio have one?

I see you have learned the "poll" function. Now try the "search" function. This question has been asked MANY times and there are MANY different opinions.

Street car?
Track car?

I did use the search function with few results!

The car will be street driven almost every day but raced once a week in the summer

Go with a 2.5
It will be much more fun on the street.

If it's a street car mostly, get the 2.5 common block. Daytonas are heavy.

I've got an 89 Spirit Turbo 2.5 automatic, and it weighs 3120 with me in it. The 2.5 will pull pretty good. I can spin tires off stoplights all day long.

If you get either a 2.2 or a 2.5 and then later you decide you want the other, it's only a crank and piston change to convert it. And the computer.

so what tim is saying is that a 2.5 is just a stroked 2.2?

so then do they have the same piston size?

Ok I read that page and found it very helpful thanks for the link, but I still have one question. The site says my pre-common block is good for a certin hp point but it doesnt say what. Basicly I want enough hp to see 13's I dont care if is 13.99 I want a 13 sec time slip! How much hp do I need and is my block good for it if not what would be a realistic hp and quarter mile time goal for a heavy daytona with a pre common block and still be a reliable every day car.

Some say 250hp is what the pre common block's are good up to then it's iffy. I'd say with a 3100 lb car or so you may run a 13.99. You'd have to cut some good 60' times though so nice slicks are a must. If you can cut a 2.0 60' time I think you can pull it off with around 250 hp in a pre common block. Any one agree/disagree?

I am not to familiar with the older stuff.

I have a 1987 TII Block and it has handled 337 hp so far.

Well my motor has forged 20 over pistons and T II rods so If turbovan has 337 hp would it be safe to say that I would be safe at 290-300 hp. Are there any links that detail what would be nesasary to reach around 300 hp? I curently have 2.5 inch straight through exhast, fwd reprogramed computer, 89 intake, fwd ported exhast manifold garret turbo at 14 pounds of boost, +20 injectors, 5th injector if I need it and the car will have a big volvo intercooler before it sees the road again. I plan on useing a diode to eliminate the overboost shutdown and I have a manual boost controler to crank it if I want to. So what else would you guys suggest?

I thought the 2.2 and 2.5 blocks were the same size, it was just different sized pistons?

lose the Volvo cooler... not good.

With what you have in the car, you will be able to see 13's... Just patience and tuning.

They share the Block and the Rods.

Pistons and Crank are different.
