Discontinued pistons!

My Lebaron gave up at 252 thousand miles with a cracked piston. So I went to the local NAPA store to order the necessary parts. Upon recieving the parts I looked at the pistons. I got a set for a turbo 2 instead of a t1. I told the parts guy and he searched a while and checked with their warehouse. After a long phone conversation it was determined that at least through NAPA the t1 piston has been discontinued and all part numbers are superceded by the Federal Mogul part number 533p. So I had to mooch a set of t2 rods from "Derek 502" so I could finish my repairs. The pistons might be available from other sources but not from NAPA anymore. I guess the parts supply is begining to dry up on some of this stuff. If these new ones last as long as the originals I will probably need more than another engine. Sure has been a fun 17 years with it though.

If we had the year and displacement we could probably find you a correct set. I find it hard to beleive that they do not offer the T1 pistons anymore. Did you try any of the TD vendors?

It's an 87 2.2. I have taken care of the problem, I got a set of rods from Derek. Since I live close to a NAPA store and have an account there I thought it would be a good idea to get my parts there. I will have the car running by Saturday but thanks for the offer.

There really shouldn't be any problem using TII pistons on TI rods. The TI's are press fit so you wouldn't use the TII pin retainers. The pistons are the same specs otherwise.
Thanks
Randy
