N/A internals under Turbo application

my Cousins step father has a 87 lebaron that was once a 2.2 T1 Auto. The block cracked and he replaced it with a 2.5 Block and drilled a hole for the oil feed i believe.. or oil return.

The internals on this engine are N/A 2.5 but the rest is all T1.. he has already put about 2500 kms on this engine b4 putting the car away with a bad cam..

Will 2.5 N/A internals hold up under Boost? IF so.. how long? or will it give out soon? are the internals the same as a 2.5 Turbo block?

you might run into problems with the rods. non turbo rods are lighter and may not hold up to boost.

everything else is the same as in a true turbo block

Was it a 2.5 common block, or tall block? The compression would be a bit high, but if he's pulled it off this long, he must be doing something right. I assume he's run +20 injectors, otherwise he'd have melted a piston by now. It probably really gets up and boogies. I'd say he should always run the best gas he can find, and keep the timing back around 6 or maybe 8 degrees.

he is not running any performance parts... everything is Bone stock.

He put the used cam in the turbo head again... it was getting bad already but now it sounds like the engine is gonna fall outta the car period. New Rings installed.. not sure if the pistons are new, new crank bearings.. new rod bearings.

I was just wondering... because i have a complete T1 Upper setup.. head.. intakes..turbo... the works.. Just no turbo block or internals..

Wondering if it was possible to swap the head onto my TBI.. change the harness and be on my way with a sleeper if the internals would hold up.

All you really need to swap to make the internals hold up are the pistons, swap in turbo pistons and you'll be golden. The real problem is the extra compression that the non turbo pistons give you.

If your talking about the engine in the '89 your selling, you should just rebuild that. It's already a common block, so it's stronger than half the turbo engines you'll find in the junkyard. Rebuild it with turbo pistons, maybe drop in a 2.2 crankshaft and use 2.2 pistons.

The 88 2.5 Tall block rods are slightly thicker than the 86-88 Turbo 1 rods.
