I bought a set of 0.020" wiseco pistons from a guy last year. Well I forgot to ask him some things and now my machine shop is asking me what the sidewall clearance should be on them. Does anyone know what this should be. I was hoping to find someone who is using wisecos in their engine who might have an answer. They are for a 2.5l. Any answers would be awsome since my block is at the shop just waiting to be bored. If you need more info then let me know and I will do my best. Thanks.

My wiescos for my 2.2 20 over called for a clearance of .0035

wiesco's phone # is 440 951-6600 Ohio. There is a number in Woodstock ON too but I do not have that handy.

Which shop are you have it done at? You see the thread in the louge about Edmonton and area guys getting together this Saturday?

Yes, Wiseco recommends .0035 clearance for their pistons

Thanks for all the info guys. I hoping for a few consistant answers and that is exactly what I got. I am having my block doen at pro-stock. They do good work but I wouldn't exactly call them speedy. Long story but my block has been thee since last march and they are just boring it now. O well as long as it is done right that's all I care about.

I noticed they were not that quick as well. I had mine done at Cambell Automotive.

Just found out Zippy's Auto (mainly a Talon performance shop) on the west end has a Turbo Chrysler expert working there. Rebuilds turbos, is doing a DOHC conversion for his Daytona. Ran some good 1/4 times he was saying...

His name is Rob. He is building a nice daytona. Make sure you have alot of time when you talk to him. He definately likes to talk about dodges. Pretty nice guy though. Can be a little intimidating at first but OK when you get to know him. He also owns the only torque plate in Edmonton for a 2.2/2.5 that I know of. How was the job that Cambells did for you? I was probably going to look go for a new shop to put some oversized valves in my head. I'm getting kinda tired of waiting for pro-stock. I know Randy (GLHS60 on this forum) and Rob (doesn't have internet which is too bad cause he has some info in his head) both use pro-stock but they seem so slow. I was thinking of going to bel engine service just off argyle. I know they do good work as well.

FWIW, I've sent Wiseco a 2.5L piston. They needed an example to build them. They are set-up to build both 2.2L and 2.5L pistons.

I phoned the Wiseco distributor in Canda and they said I would need a job # for them to give me any clearance specs since they didn't know what the tolerance specs were on my pistons. I have contacted the guy who I bought them from but I don't know if he still has the job #. If I can't get this I think I will tell the shop to make it .0035" of clearance from what I have been reading and from what you guys have said. Ken, was this clearance at 1.3" down from the first oil ring like they say to do on the Wiseco web site? Also what does FWIW mean. I'm kinda a dummy when it comes to forum abreviations. Thanks for all the help.

For what its worth (FWIW)

Yes it was the standard clearance measurement as described from Wiseco.

Also interesting that yours ARE 2.5's. Duane indicated they needed one from me to insure they had the right specs.

The specs currently being built for me include moving the entire ring pack down .020". Even 2.5L forged pistons can have a nasty habit of peeling the top ring land off and wreaking havoc on the combustion chamber.

I bought mine from Dean Lambson in Spokane WA. I don't know if he is on this forum or not. I don't think he is. He had a set made for his 2.5 with .927" wrist pins and then his machine shop over bored one of his cylinders so they were only used for break in until he took them out and found the problem. The shop bought him new 0.030" pistons and rebored his block. The top ring land is deffinately larger the stock though.

These are .901 pins.... Just a hone on the stock wrist pin bushing and all is good.

They were able to press out the old bushings and put in some chevy bushings and hone them with no problems at all. I saw them today and they looked great. Can't hurt to have some larger pins.
