I ordered a set of 2.5 std rings for my motor. My machinist called me saying the top ring is too small. Like 1/8 inch gap between ends. is this normal? He ordered a new set and will be here tomorrow. **** i am beginig to hate crap box dodges...blew a syncro in the neon last nite...argggg

Standard size rings are too small and a machinist is involved. I doubt that it is "crap box dodges" fault.

well considering i bought used the used 2.5 pistons from fwd...they were 1mm oversize. I bought std rings...that have a 1/8 or so gap in them. I did get 4 new pistons from them in box but the rings all fit except one set...wtf?

And if you had a nite like alst nite and then this today...you would be a bit irritated at these cars. My neon is developing rod knock with a blown 2nd gear syncro...i am not a happy camper... I dont blame the car itself. a mopar needs to build new components like the old ****....strong as hell. I blew a syncro in a stock neon STOCK **** IT!

As far as ordering parts goes, you should measure and check everything yourself before you send the parts off to the machine shop. *Some* machine shops love to find problems that don't actually exist. The shops around here love to screw us over when it comes to purchasing new parts. "We can only order hypereutectic pistons, but they're much better than the stock Mahle pistons you were going to order" Think about it, you bought pistons and rings from a place other than the machine shop... do you think the shop is about to say the "other guy's parts" are ok? No! They want you to buy everything from THEM so they can make some extra $$. I've received more bad advice from machinests than I have from any other person.
When it comes to the neon syncros, well, they don't fail without a reason. A synchro is a very simple device. In my experiences, syncros fail for two reasons: A clutch that isn't releasing all the way, or due to poor driving habits. I'm sure some other people could chime in here... How many mustang and camaro transmissions do you see with a bad 2nd gear syncro? LOL
I could be totally off here, so please feel free to comment on anything I posted.

Well my machinist also built my brothers 340 race motor. My brother supplied all aprts with no issues. As for the pistons, I did get stock mahls form fwd brand new in box. The rings i got, the bottom 2 rings fit fine but the top set had too large of a gap. He has had issues like this before, where someone put the worng ring set in to there. He ordered me a brand new set of speed pro rings. Now I get to send mine back. Yay As for my neon....slamming the gears did it....hehehe

when you buy parts of any kind it's not nice to use the vendors name when they are not directly involved. Cindy can only supply you with what you ask her for. i promise you they are not making rings on site. however all td vendors i have delt with are extra nice to their customers. that being said call Cindy and tell her what happend i'm more than sure fwd will help you out hassle free.

I did get my motor back and did inspect the rings. They are infact too small. Like someone took otut he right ones and stuck another set in there. Oh well I guess.

I had a similar problem when I ordered my engine kit from northern auto parts. Except all my rings were wrong, they were way too thick to go in the grooves. They were in the right numbered box though, not northerns fault but federal moguel's
