ok iam starting my rebuild this week on the engine in my lancer the old engine has a hole in the block below the fuel pump block off plate the size of a golf ball (the engine amazingly still runs good as long as you keep it oiled up)

i bought an 89 common block from a wrecker and its almost stripped down i was just wondering what you guys suggest for building my engine because iam doing this from scratch and want to do it right

so far my parts iam planning on using are as follows:
89 common block, T1 crank, T2 rods and pistons, 86 head, 88 cam lifters, 1mm oversized valves, i wanted to overbore the engine a little too, oh and i was gonna be using the 1 piece intake from a newer turbo dodge, and i havent been able to find an intercooler yet

any suggestions would be awesome at this point nothing but the block is set in stone iam also getting alot of trick machineing done i have a friend whos a machineist

thanks in advance for your help guys

The common block already has "TII" rods in it they r same as TI 2.5L rods.. if u use "TII" pistons as u say then u cannot use that TI commonblock crank cuz it is for 2.5L and all "TII" cars were 2.2L. You will also need to get a round tooth cam gear cuz ur square tooth gear wont work with the round tooth commonblock crank gear. aswell as a round tooth timing belt.

crap i just replied to this post and it never worked hrmmm....

thanks for the reply my common block is not from a turbo car so i dont believe itll have the T2 rods it would save me alot of money if it did

i wasnt planning on using the crank from the common block i was gonna be using the crank from the t1 in my lancer right now which i believe i need to use for 2 reasons 1. my common block is a 2.5 i want a 2.2 and 2. my lancer is a 5 speed the new block came from an auto and iam not positive but i believe the fly wheel bolt patterns are different maybe iam wrong but i honestly dont know

also what are my options for internals the only ones i know of for pistons is either go JE, venola, or T2 and for rods i dont have a clue i can afford the T2 parts but iam still on a budget i dont have a great job but i want the most out of what i can afford

also like i mentioned i have a friend whos a machineist so hes doin some cool stuff for me so far ill give you the list of what iam gettin him to do for me: first hes gonna overbore the engine mill down the head put larger valves in the head back cut the valves put new valve guides in the head hes also gonna chamfer the oil passages on my crank shaft for me and do a full balance of everything including my clutch i also asked him to take some meat off my fly wheel which hes gonna do and for what i mentioned hes only charging me 300 dollars so its all good

also i wanted my block deckplate honed and Oringed but he doesnt have the tools to do it for my engine and he said the only person who would have them is at the closest prolly in california and iam smack dab in the middle of Bc. canada i cant afford to send my block that far away

any way thanks for the reply any help is awesome right now ive got a couple weeks off work (slow season) so iam gonna try and get everything done before i head to virginia for holidays
