I am getting a 2.5 that is all machined and comes with new mahl pistons and everything else to put it together. I currently have a 2.2 in my 85 shelby charger. I know I will need to upgrade to +20 injectors if I want to keep my electronics.

My question is should I drop the engine in as a 2.5 or would I be better off swapping the crank and pistons and turning it back into a 2.2?

I have all the 2.5 stuff but I don't want to put it in just because I have it. If I am better off making it a 2.2 then I wil go that route.

depends on what your goin for

the 2.5 will give you more torque and low end power however it doesnt rev as high

the 2.2 will rev higher but will aslo require more rpm's to make its power

if that makes any sence?

for street only id go with the 2.5
for drag only id go with the 2.2

for a combination of both id pick what ever floats my boat hehe

What year is the block? Makes a big diff if it is a common or noncommon block. If both are common block you can change internals, but is they are noncommon then bocks are diff. Also you can not switch internals between common and noncommon blocks.

The 2.5 is a common block. If I were to change it to a 2.2 I know that I would have to use common block parts. My current 2.2 is not a common block and is very tired anyway. Since the engine comes with all new 2.5 stuff, I think I will keep it a 2.5 at least for this year. If I am not happy with it I could always rebuilt it over the winter.

Thanks

Its generally accepted to be true that the 2.5's dont rev as high as the 2.2.

But I think you'll like the torque...

Hello:

And your opinion for Rod/stroke ratio 2.2 and 2.5 is the same?

why not require rod short o rod long to make power or more torque at the rev high ?

for 2.5 only drag?

maybe a combinations of rods length change the power.

what do you think?
