what are some of the obvious features of the commonblocks? i have access to a 2.5 tbi complete motor for little of nothing. its in a minivan. i believe its a 91 van, though the motor may be a year or two newer. what years were the commons made. would it even be worth messin w/ it? thinking of a 16 valve conversion project motor. it has a 782 on it right now. i currently have 2 2.2 commonblocks. one in car and one on stand. those could be made 2.5 correct? the crank and rods in this 2.5 arent forged cause its not a turbo motor, right???

thanks for any help

The common blocks have a casting date on the back of the block, right over the oil pan rail. The 2.5 never had a forged crank and the non turbo's never got the good rods, so no forged pieces in that one. You can use the 2.5 crank in any common block.

i read on donovans site that the 2.5's have cast rods but ive been told by a couple different board members that all 2.5's have t11 rods in them so what am i gonna do get my part numbers and dig in deeper cause iam gonna run t2 rods in my new engine no matter what if ive got them then iam gonna save some bucks

if some one could post the part number for the t2 rods that would be great ill post the part number thats on my 2.5 common block rods

also my common block was n/a out of an 89 reliant and iam gonna use the header off it on my turbo see how that goes

You can tell t2 rods from the other rods also just by looking at them. normal 2.5 rods and t2 rods you can really tell the difference just by looking at them. t2 rods are much more beefier. All 2.5 turbo cars with common blocks 89 and newer had the heavy duty or t2 rods in them.
