I realize that but when I spoke to the machinist about boring the block I asked him how they bore it. He said the line bore the block to make sure it's striaght and the bores are not tapered in or out. That's what he said not me Anyways I won't be taking back to him as it cost $1100 to rebuild and 2 months to get back. It was supposed to cost $450. I did get the rods machined w/ ARP bolts and shot peened. But come on the guy nickle and dimed me to death. And I didn't even get a kiss after he stuck it to me

That's the info I was after. You had the engine rebuilt so you should have the info on the oversizes. Either from the machinist or from your bill. You can buy a single piston. You can also buy a single cylinder set of rings, but they have to be special oredered and you don't get the price break. You could rent or borrow a hone if needed and fix it in the car. The parts store (or machinist that changes the piston for you) can mic it and tell you bore size if you don't have the specs./tools to do it. Detonation hammers rod bearings too. How do they look?
Jim
edit:If it was a full rebuild, $1100 isn't bad. You can't do much with $450 on any engine anymore. I know it may not be on target with his estimate, but $450 will only rebuid an engine that doesn't need anything.

I gave him a 89 TII motor and he replaced the pistons, rings, hot tanked case and crank, polished the crank, ARP rod bolts, machine the rods, New gaskets, freeze plugs, oil pump, all bearings, balanced crank and assembly for $1056.46(tax included) I thought it was alot since I've seen Jesper motors for $400 long block.

I went a head a bought all new pistons and rings since who knows what the others llok like I didn't pull them. The bearings looked great. Just waiting to get the parts should be here today or Saturdayfrom FWD.

And for some odd reason the guys like you and Mike have the strongest engine with the least expensive work. go figure Don't worry I'm turning into a cheap bastard, hopefully the car will run right this time or next time I'll put a piston from the junkyard in her and see how she runs then

I'm just saying that at a machine shop, $450 won't get you too far. I've scabbed cars together on a tighter budget than that too, but the free labor stops at my stuff.
...well, maybe a friend's car or two.

Thats not a bad deal, sorry. If you had it balanced, ARP rod bolts, rods resized etc! A tad high but not outragious. A Jasper long block, well, $400 should tell you its build quality. The same addage is still around, you get what you pay for,
And yes, $450 won't get you very far at the machine shop these days, even with me rebuilding my own engine, still cost me around $700 in parts and labour plus the head work! Engines aren't cheap and thats the last place you wan't to cheap out!
