If it's assembled you'll have a hard time telling a TI from a TII.

If the deck is cross drilled, then it may very well be a TII block.

Once the oil pan is off, look for the beefy rods and forged crank.

I can't remember where it is on the block, but there is a date stamp on it. pretty sure it's the back side, so you'll have to get it up on a lift to see it if it's in the car. should be dated 1987 or later, I think some of the early(86) "T2's" were actually T1 crank & rods with the proper T2 intake (IC, manifold, etc.). somewhere I had found a reference for which date they started only using true T2 parts, can't remember beyond the year what date it was. went thru this when I bought a T2 long block a few years back. I'm sure if you search the board you'll find it.
good luck

Ask him what it came out of.

From TheDodgeGarage:
The 89 CSX, Shelby Daytona and the Lancer Shelby are the only 'Shelby' vehicles with Turbo II internals.

There should be a casting number somewhere on the block, can't remember where I saw it before, but you can decode the casting number and figure it out.

I got one if you want it, It's out of an 87 Shelby Z daytona, showing 101K miles on ODO, It's a short block, block with pistons, rods, crank, and pan, nothing else, I'm willing to sell it, I was asking 300.00, but I'm willing to negotiate a price. It's good, turns freely.

Doesn't always work. Engine might have been swapped at some point.

I bougth a TII Shelby Z, only to find it had a TI bottom end. Turns out previous owner had a shop install a j-yard block.

Matching numbers, just like you hear about on classic car auctions, thats how I know my 87 TII Short block is the original block out of that 87 Shelby Z, matched the VIN on the Car to the VIN Stamped on the block.
