2.5 tall deck n/a to turbo?

Hey guys I am really considering going the tall deck block route. What type of problems will I have by adding my head, intake, and turbo from my t1 GLHS to the tall deck block? Yes I know that I will have to figure out the oiling for the turbo, but isn't to bad. What are the big hurdles I have to be careful off? Thanks, chris

If you are just swapping your top end on then I would be concerned about the compression ratio and the weak pistons and rods.

Well they are your standard non turbo piston. They are not designed to handle boost at all. None of the tall blocks were ever turbo from the factory so there are no easily available strong parts for it.

I'm assuming you're sticking with the 2.5 crank.

It's probably not worth your time over a newer commonblock engine. The pistons in 2.5 tall deck engines are early 2.2 T1 pistons. You can drop in 2.2 JE's easily, if you account for the pressed in wrist pins in the longer rods.

The rods are very similar to the LW rods. I wouldn't trust them for a car that spends a lot of time at high rpm, but you probably won't have to worry about that if you're building a drag-only engine and keep the 2.5 crank.

You might have hood clearance issues, other than that I think you've got it figured out.

thanks for the link, I have read that one over a dozen times. great info. for now I am going to stick with the 2.5 crank just to see how it performs. that's if i am able to purchase the 2.5 block. if the motor needs more umph up high then comes the 2.2 crank. there is alot of things up in the air still.
