Now I see why using a torque plate helps!

Today I helped take the head off of Supercrackerbox's CSX-T. While we were studying the #2 cylinder which has issues I noticed that the wear in the cylinders was a little uneven. They seemed to have been worn a little more adjacent to every headbolt location. Now I never really doubted that using a torque plate helps out. Every little bit helps. I just didn't realize that it can make that much of a difference. The engine only has 2-3k miles on it and the areas near the bolt holes(from the deck to about 2-2.5" down) are a lighter shade than anywhere else, it's amazing! I'm now strongly considering using a torque plate for my next engine buildup! I'll try to hit Adam up for a pic of this.

I think it was on the DDG site...Also recommended using factory head bolts on the torque plate and simulate the depth of the thread engagement as it would be installed.
You should see the difference it makes in Harley jugs. You can actually turn the engine over freely before the heads are torqued.
