My GLHS w/ 93,000 has a knock that is getting louder over a period of 6,000 miles. Seems to do it only at part throttle. Full throttle or completely off it sounds fine. A rod bearing? Wristpin? If a rod bearing is causing it, what are the chances of just replacing that one bearing and possibly rod bolts. Does this engine use stretch bolts?
My next option would be a true turbo II short or long block stock or built up a little. Anyone?
I'm kinda dissapointed that I got 217,000 out of my other GLHS and it was the turbo that finally failed on it.
Any advice/experience would be appreciated.
Kurt

y guess would be a wrist pin only because it is happening to my engine and it has been like that for close to 2 years now (probably about 20 - 30 000 km). It only really happens at a light load and part throttle especially while just cruising regardless of rpm. There is no way a thrown bearing would last that long. It is also louder when it is warm which rules out piston slap which from what I understand should be worse when it is cold. The noise is getting louder though hense the soon to be engine swap (see web page). Just my 2 cents.
