I've heard two different things......they are the same and they are different. What's the truth?

Also, can I use an early T1 crankshaft with T2 rods?

Thanks..

I think that the T2 blocks have the extra cooling ports on the deck surface. The cranks and rods are interchangable as far as I know. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I've heard that the early t1 and t2 blocks are identical and i've also heard that the t2 has extra material to make it stronger... I've heard both from reliable sources so i'm still unsure which is true

From my experience the early TI and TII blocks are the same except the TII got the crossdrilled coolant passages on the deck. I've never seen any difference in the amount of material when comparing the two.

The turbo blocks do have more material than some of the early carb 2.2's, and the common blocks more yet.

Pre 86 blocks are drilled for 10mm headbolts (G head). So watch out for that.

Rods and cranks all interchange. I've never even heard rumor that that early TII blocks had more material than the TI's.

If you use an early 6 bolt crank you'll need an early flywheel.

Yeah, Early TI's had the cast 6 bolt crank, while the early TII's had a forged 8 bolt crank, my father found this out the hard way, after 3 hours of trying to put a clutch and tranny designed for an 8-bolt crank and flywheel on a 6 bolt crank and flywheel, he finally figured it out. And yes, all of the TII blocks are crossdrilled from what I have seen, and besides the stronger crank and rods, the bottom ends appear to be identical.

I was wondering this myself since I bought an 87 T-II block. The mini-mopar site states that this block had a little more material in it then the early T-I blocks, but not as much as the common block as I remember. That was the only place i found that info though. I hope it's true!

i actually got to looking at the 88 turbo 2 block i got here and compared it to the 88 tbi block i have and the turbo 2 block does appear to have extra material around the crank area. but not as much as like the common blocks ive seen but it does appear to have been strengthened on the bottom end.

Will

The carb, TBI and the turbo I use the same block just machined defferent. the turbo II is a defferent casting.
