Hey Brian,

Just ab fyi - i didnt replace the head gasket, only the valve cover gasket. Basically alll i did wasa removed the bolts, remove and shave of the silicone that was previously on there and put on some new stuff. HOWEVER, i did not therally clean it and some of the silicone could have not stayed on the proper spot. just today i redid the gasket and it didnt seem to leak after 30 mins of idle rjunning, here is what i did different today - on the valve cover (exterior) i did clean it off right to the metal and seemed to do the trick, now as for the head gasket, i dont think it is leaking as i do not have rad fluid hitting the ground. but i do think i have a bad water pump.n the thermostat hits realllllly hot and then bolts back down to about 1/8th the way heated, so il be replacing that as well. any suggestions would be helpful guys, thanks.
Dan.

Hey again all - just thought id let you know what is going on.

Just went to get the motor replaced instead of dealing with the rest of this junk and well here is what they said - keep the engine - prolly the best stock engine that they have heard so far - so i am, they also told me there were two blown seals they had to fix up - the upper and lower to the crankcase - also going to replace the timing belt as that is contaminated - so all in all its going to cost me 300 + taxes as comparison to 900+++ Taxes and labour. so all is working out so far... il let you guys know what happens.... hopefully...

Just got the call today and picked up my car! OMG ITS SO CLEAN! They did a great job, replaced top and bottom gaskets, and valve cover gasket - although the valve cover gasket is still leaking onto the air filter, its not too bad ^^ WOO IM SO HAPPY I GOT MY CROTCHROCKET BACK!!!!

My 86 and 87 Shelby Chargers both did the same thing. The best way to fix this problem is to change to a newer style water pump housing. Both my cars had one heater core hose going to the rad. Plug this rad hole and hook this hose to the water pump. The newer water pump housing will have a 5/8 nipple for the hose. If this fails, your heater core is plugged. Unhook both hoses, and blow out with water or an air compressor. I found drilling a hole in a new 185 thermostat didnt make much difference, but does help when filling your rad.
We still are on the overheating subject, arent we?

cool.... sorta the gtp's are nice cars but in the end, a custom turbo k car would be faster for cheaper depening on the amount of junkyard resourcefulness
