I have a 2.5L block from my 89 daytona that was maxed out on the temp gauge until it quietly succomed...,pistons scorched, valves stuck.
I would assume the head is trash. can this block be reused or should i
scrap it also?

I wouldnt use it especially if the pistons overheated that much. Theres so many known good cores out there. It would suck to build a motor and have a stupid problem later like a missed crack or something...
