Hey I am not sure, but I think it was Russ somewhere mentioned that common blocks marked with a "C" on the front were some how stronger, or at least a little different that most other common blocks.

Can anyone verify that information?

Straight from Russ's site:

"Notice the big "C" on front of block? Thats the casting mark of Mexican blocks that are said to be superior to our stateside units for core shift and overall quality. Have seen the Mexican blocks in some R/T's and dealer replacement motors are rumored to have used them."

I think (and I may be wrong) someone was saying there was a special marking fro common blocks from mexico and that they tended to have more uniform material in the castings. I also remember it being brought up in FFWD's dyno thread sometime after it was mentioned they split the block.

edit: doh, beat by one minute

I just pulled the engine from the donor car (1989 N/A Shadow)
It has the "C", unknown if the motor was ever replaced.

Seems like they can be found in about any late vehicle. Saw one in a 91/92 flex fuel 2.5 van with propane conversion and manual trans from factory. I looked at the R/T's and that sweet Iroc at SDAC and did not notice the "C" but have before in other R/T's.

Okay, but where EXACTLY on the front of the block is it located? Pictures? How tall is the C in inches?

Just to the right of the oil filter and a little lower.

My Daytona has a "C" marked block (came from an '89 Daytona Shelby, original engine).

I also bought one out of an '89 LeBaron some time ago, also original engine, and it too has the "C" marking.

FYI.

The original 2.5TI block in my Shadow (89 model year) has the "C" cast on it. The production date was 10/88.
